Top 3: film trilogies

September 22, 2008

It´s time for another top 3. This time it´s about films, my top 3 trilogies. It wasn´t that easy, but it soon became clear witch 3 film trilogies that stood out.

I had some criterias for this list:

  • there had to be three and only three films in the series.
  • I had to had seen them all.

NR 3: The Jurassic Park trilogyThe Jurassic park trilogy is third on my top 3 list. So what are they about? Scientists have developed a way to bring dinosaurs to life using DNA taken from dinosaurs blood. Blood that has been preserved inside insects that got trapped in amber. The first film, Jurassic Park came out in 1993. Here John Hammond has built a dinosaur park on a remote island. Hammond puts together a selected audience to view the park, and help him decide if the park is safe or not safe for the public. But things don´t go as planned, as the security system collapses. Setting the dinosaurs free.

Here is the trailer for Jurassic Park:

In 1997 it was time to go back into the Jurassic world. And The Lost World: Jurassic Park, the second film in the trilogy came out in cinemas. This time the plot is slitely different. A rich family on a yacht cruise stumbles over a second island (also known as Site B) with dinosaurs. Site B is where is dinosaurs were being bred for Jurassic Park. But after the failure of Jurassic Park the Site B was left alone, and the dinosaurs were left to themselves. A team is sent to monitor the the dinosaurs lifestyle, before InGen (the company that owns the island) goes to the island to capture the dinosaurs, to bring them back to the US as attractions.

Here is the trailer to The Lost World: Jurassic Park:

The third and last film in the series Jurassic Park 3, came out in 2001. This time round the plot is a rescue mission. 14-year old Eric crashes on the Site B island, and his parents trick Dr. Alan Grant (surviver from the first film) to help them find him. But what the parents didn´t know was that there are two dino islands. And that Dr. Grant was on Site A, not Site B witch they land on to find their son.

Here is the trailer for Jurassic Park 3:

Why the Jurassic Park trilogy?

I remember watching the first film in the cinema as a kid, and was convinced dinosaurs did still exist. And when I heard they were making a second film I couldn´t wait. The reason why this trilogy isn´t higher than number 3, is because the third film isn´t as good as the first two. The Jurassic Park films are always fun to watch, and are my third favorite trilogy.

It was hard to choose witch of the top 2 film trilogies would be number one, both are excellent and great entertainment. But a choice had to be made.

NR 2: The Jason Bourne trilogy
The Jason Bourne trilogy started in 2002 with the film The Bourne Identity

The trilogy starts with a fishing boat rescuing a wounded man out at sea. This man has forgotten everything, including who he is. He soon finds out his name, Jason Bourne. As time goes by he remembers small parts of his past, but wants to know more. On his mission to find out how he is, he meets Marie. Who helps Jason find out more about his identity. But they soon find themselves in the middle of assassination plots by the CIA.

Here is the trailer for The Bourne Identity:

Two years later in 2004, Bourne is back in The Bourne Supremacy.

Jason has now begun a new life with Marie, and has left his old life behind. But the CIA are still after him. A CIA agent is killed and agency´s money is stolen. Jason gets framed for the incident, and fights back.

Hers is the trailer for The Bourne Supremacy:

The last film in the series is The Bourne Ultimatum, and came out in 2007. This film starts off the same night Supremacy finished. Jason is still trying to find out more of his past. He meets up with a reporter who is looking into Blackbriar, a CIA program that Jason thinks he might had been a part of. The CIA are also trying to get hold of the reporter, and find Jason while after the reporter. So the cat and mouse game is on again, this time its the final round. Jason wants to know his entire past.

Here is the trailer for The Bourne Ultimatum:

Why the Jason Bourne trilogy?

The Jason Bourne trilogy are some of the best thrillers ever made. They have it all, action, suspense, good twists, great actors, and what makes it the number 2 trilogy, is all of them plus a fascinating story. You get involved in the story. You want Bourne to win, but at the same time you don´t want it to end. That´s what makes a good film.

So we are now down to the final spot, number one. It is very close between the top 2, but the number one trilogy has the something extra.

NR 1: The Matrix trilogy

“What is The Matrix? Unfortunately, no one can be told what the Matrix is. You have to see it for yourself.” A quote from the film. The year is 1999, and one day Thomas Anderson´s PC gets hacked. He is told to follow the white rabbit. This leads his to Morpheus and Trinity, and they show him what the matrix is. Mr. Anderson gets the choice between a blue pill, and a red pill. The blue pill…….   Sorry I cant a good summary of the story because of two reasons. One, the trilogy deserves a much better summary than I can write. Two, the story is so good and complicated, that if I start a summary I wont finish.

So here comes a very very small summary of the Matrix plot: Machines have taken control over the world. In an attempt stop the machines. We humans have taken away the machines life/power course, the sun. But we underestimated the machines. They found a way to survive, by making humans into batteries (they bred humans and turn body heat into power). But their system is flawed, we don´t live long in captivity, we need the Matrix. Mr. Anderson also known as Neo, is supposed to be our savier. I you still don´t understand what the Matrix is, watch the trilogy. Because no one can be told what the Matrix is, You have to see it for yourself.

Here is the trailer for The Matrix:

The first film came out in 1999, the second in the trilogy, The Matrix Reloaded came out in 2003. This time round the machines are building an army to kill the last humans living outside the Matrix, in the last human city Zion. Neo has many hard choices to make in this film, choices between love and the survival of the free human race. Agent Smith (an agent from the Matrix) is now fully after Neo.

Here is the trailer for The Matrix Reloaded:

The Matrix Revolutions, the last film in the best trilogy ever made also came out in 2003. Now the final battle is near, will the free human race survive? Will Neo win against agent Smith?

Here is the trailer for The Matrix Revolutions:

Why The Matrix trilogy?

Where do I start, well I have got to give credit to the Wachowski brothers. They are the directors, writers and producers. The Matrix is their idea, their imagination gone wild. The Matrix is not just a sc-fi action thriller, but it has so many layers. Each time you watch it, you see a new layer. The Matrix film have got alot of attention because of t it´s ground breaking effects. But for me personally it´s the story that is the best part. The trilogy has it all, action, suspense, great twist, great actors, great effects but most of all a fantastic story. Like the Jason Bourne trilogy, you feel for the characters, you want Neo to win, but at the same time don´t want the films to finish.

The Matrix trilogy is my favorite trilogy.

Some of you are might be wundering why these trilogies are not on the list: Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, Indiana Jones and The Godfather. Well the list is of my personal favorites. Lord of the Rings is a very good trilogy, but not one of my personal favorites. I haven´t seen all the Star Wars films so I can´t list them, the reason I haven´t seen them all is because I didn´t really like the ones I have seen. I have only seen two Indiana Jones film so I can´t list them, plus there are now four Indiana Jones films. So its no longer a trilogy. As for the Godfather trilogy, I haven´t seen any of them. I Yes I know i should have, as I do have the trilogy box on DVD.

Well thats my list. What are your favorite trilogies?

The vice-presidential choice

September 14, 2008

The US presidential election is not far away. Tuesday November 4th is election day. During the election campaign the candidates have had to make several choices. But one choice sticks out as maybe the most important, the choice vice-presidential.

I believe there are manly two different ways of thinking when choosing a vice president. The best candidate is the person that falls in both of these categories.

  1. The candidate that will help you win the election.
  2. The candidate that can help you if you get elected.
So who has the Barack Obama and John McCain choosen? Obama chose Joe Biden, and McCain chose Sarah Palin. I think both of these vice president candidates fall in the one of the two categories. What categories do you think they fall into?

Obama knows he will need someone with experience, especially with foreign policy. He also needs help getting working lass votes. I believe Obama chose Biden mostly because of nr 2, but at the same time he had nr 1 in the back of his mind.

McCain on the other hand chose Palin only to help get elected. They disagree on several issues. I don´t think that Palin would have been chosen, if it wasn´t for that Hillary was nearly chosen by the democrat´s. Before McCain announced Palin as his choice, he had only meet her once, yes once. Many people are saying that she wasn´t his first choice. He wanted Joe Lieberman, but his advisers convinced him that that choice could upset the republican base. So he ended up with Sarah Palin, someone the base would like.

In the recent days, some people are speculating if Obama should have chosen Hillary instead of Biden. She equally qualified for the role, but Obama went for Biden. Why Biden not Hillary? I think he chose Biden becuase of all the baggage the Clintons have. By this I mean Hillary nearly won the nomination, and might not be completely satisfied with the vice presidential role. At the same time Bill would always be in the background. Obama might not wont to have him breathing down his neck. Now Obama can ask Bill for advise when he needs some.

You have got to give McCain points for guts though. For choosing someone completely new. But it has turned out she also has some baggage. For example that she might have misused her power as govener (anklages for å ha misbrukt stillingen sin ) she also asked a librarian in her state, if she would be all right with censoring library books if asked to do so (Palin pressured Wasilla librarian).

Joe Bidens baggage is that he has said many thing during the years, and could say something to hurt the campaign at any time.

Only time will tell who wins and who loses. The race is on, and it looks like it will get ugly.

Did Obama/McCain do the right choice for vice president?

Will this important choice de the decider for who wins?
Here are some articles in norwegian newspapers about the US election:

FRP elsket og hatet

September 10, 2008

Her kommer FRP sitt dilemma.

Ja ting kan of må forbedres, men staten må kunne gripe inn.

To Google, or not to Google

September 4, 2008

Everyone that has ever been online knows Google. Google has become so big that it is not just a search engine and a corporation, but a verb. People don´t say look it up on the web, but Google it. So I ask the question: to Google, or not to Google? That is the question.

Google was founded by Larry Page and Sergey Brin on September 7th 1998. The two students from Stanford University started Google with just 100,000 dollars. And over the past 10 years they have built it in to a multi billion dollar corporation. August 19th Google went on the stock exchange, making it worth 23 billion dollars. Today it is worth an outstanding 179,07 billion US dollars.

So how does Google make money? It sell advertisements associated with search keywords. Say for example you type in the word car, it will find links for you. If you look to right after you have done a search you will see the payed links, or ads. But Google doesn´t just make money with these links, Google owns many other internet sites and applications. Google make money from normal ads here as well.

So which web sites and services does Google own/provide?

Here is a list on most of them:

  • www.Google.com          Google´s search engine.
  • Google News          Automated news aggregator
  • Google Product Search          Price comparison service
  • Google Groups          Discussion website
  • Google Spreadsheets          Web-based word processor
  • Google Maps          Offers street maps, a route planner
  • Gmail          E-mail service
  • Google Video          It´s own version of Youtube
  • Google Sites wiki          Helps small-businesses have their own website
  • Google Desktop          A desktop search for your own computer
  • Google.org          Charitable arm of the Google´s search engine
  • Picasa          Software app. for organizing and editing digital photos
  • Orkut          Social network service
  • Google Earth          Virtual globe, uses satellite imagery, aerial photography                                       and GIS 3D
  • Google Moon          Shows satellite images of the Moon
  • Google Mars          Shows pictures of Mars
  • Google Labs          Shows Google´s up and coming projects
  • Google Checkout          Online payment processing service
  • Google Book Search          Search engine for books that Google are scanning
  • Knol          Described as a complement to Wikipedia
  • SketchUP          3D modeling program
  • Youtube          Google bought YouTube for 1,65 billion in 2006.
  • Google China          Google´s search engine for Chinese users
  • Google Chrome          Open source web browser
Even though Google has all these sites/services it is still primarily a search engine. And is the biggest of all search engines.
Here is Google market share:
  • Worldwide              59,7%
  • USA                        42%
  • UK                          75%
  • Australia                80%
  • Belgium                 85%
  • France                    85%
  • The Netherlands    91%
  • Germany                91%
  • Spain                     99%
Is Google to big for it´s own good? Do we want a monopoly on internet searches? Do we want one search engine to tell us what is relevant to our searches? If Google wanted to keep some information from us they could. I doubt they will ever do that to us, but that is exactly what they are doing to the Chinese. Google China was invented for the Chines people. The Chinese government keeps a tight rein on the internet. And control what the Chinese people can and can not access. For Google to get greater access to the Chinese market they had to agree to some cencorship. Google has come under criticism for censoring its search services in China. This what the BBC had to say: Google censors itself for China.  Here is some more info: wikipedia, google china.
This is Google´s response to the the criticism: While removing search results is inconsistent with Google´s mission, providing no information… is more inconsistent with our mission.      Every single search on Google gets recorded, every keyword saved. Google say they do this so that the can provide the Did you mean: ….. feature. When you type in a keyword, and change it so that it is spelt write Google remembers it for next time. These records of typed keywords are saved in a huge database indefinitely. Do you want Google to keep a record of all your searches? Some people say that each IP address has a database with the search keywords from that computer. I that is true i don´t know, but i it is true it´s not good news.

So how does the search engine work? Well, when you type in your keyword its find web pages that have that word in them. After it has found them it has to rank them. The pages are ordered by what the search engine thinks is most relevant. But how does it think?. The entire Google search engine is basically just a bunch of algorithms. Mathematics put in a sequence to make instructions. For example, when ranking the algorithms look at how many ingoing links every page has. The more incoming links a page has there more relevant i becomes. But i doesn´t stop there. The incoming links to the incoming are also counted. This goes on and on. Thats the simple version.

Did you mean: …….   Is something that often pops up when using Google. It is a kind of spelling corrector. On online dictionary. Lets says you spell your keyword wrong, Google comes up with it believes you are looking for. This is a very helpful service that Google provides. I used it many times myself while writing this post. But have you ever wounded how the search engine knows what you meant?Do you have Gmail? If you do, did you know that Google copies all of you e-mails. Google´s privacy policy says; residual copies of deleted messages and accounts may take up to 60 days to be deleted from our active servers and may remain in our offline backup systems in perpetuity. Read this link: Google subpoenaed to turn over deleted Gmail messages

Google has lots of info. on its users. Maybe to much. They say they don´t misuse this info. I personally don´t think they are misusing it, but just the storage of info may temp third parties to get hold of this info. Some years back the US government asked Google to hand over keyword search info. Google denied to do so. Here they stood up for their users wrights, and I hope they will do so in the future also.

At the moment Google is building a large book library. It is helping many Universities and libraries to digitally copy there books. The idea is to make as many books a possibly available online. This is a very good thing. But what if one corporation gets hold of most of the world book online. And then starts to charge people to view them. It´s not just Google doing this, many other companies and non profit org. are digitalising books. The worlds books are from the people. for the people. They should all come together to make a digital world library online.

Google Earth is a very cool service. You can move around the whole world, and look at what you want. But as all technology this has also been abused. You can see in people gardens, and some people have taken advantage of this.

Google Earth Pool-Crashing Parties Latest Teen Craze. You cant blame Google for this, but do you want to let everyone look at your properties?

This week Google launch there newest branch on the Google tree, Google Chrome. Just on day after its launch, Google´s web browser had 1% on the market. That is amazing in just one day, this shows Google power. Google tok én prosent på ett døgn.

Well there are my thoughts on Google. I would just like to say, that I an not picking on Google. I use Google on a daily basis, it´s search engine, Google Earth and SketchUp. Google is a very innovative company, and come up with many helpful features. I´m just wondering if Google has to much power. Do we want one company having so much influence? Google hasn´t abused it´s power, yet (that we know of, not that I think they have). Google´s own corporate motto is Don´t be evil. Lets hope that is always the case.

Digitale pass, deg selv i kortformat

September 3, 2008

  • Søker må ha norsk personnummer i Folkeregisteret

USA ønsker dette p.g.a.
